ISHNR History

The ISHNR was originally conceptualised over a few rounds of informal intellectual discussions and debates during a rounds of coffee at State IRIA Conferences in2018-19. Subspeciality Radiology Societies were fast emerging in India and there was a growing palpable interest in Head and Neck Radiology. For some years, Head Neck was considered as a sub-set of Neuroradiology – but there was definitely a growing need for an independent society with an increasing number of Radiologists with dedicated interests in this field. 

And this eventually led to the birth of the Indian Society of Head and Neck Radiology – the ISHNR was established by a group of dedicated radiologists in 2019 at Chennai with a view to improve and standardise methodologies of Head and Neck Imaging. The society was formed under the able guidance of Head and Neck stalwart of Indian origin at Hongkong – Prof Dr T Anil Ahuja. The society was officially formed and registered on 20 May 2019 at Chennai, India.
